Former NFL Player Turned Pastor Calls for End of Church Segregation
11/29/2011
Tweet
Former NFL Player Derwin Gray, now a pastor at a church called Transformation Church in Charlotte, N.C. has called for an end to church segregation. As a new Christian Gray noticed that many churches are segregated, and more so than the cities, and neighborhoods in the surrounding areas.
Gray, speaking to a crowd at Liberty University stated that "God's dream" to see salvation for the world and unity in the church amongst different nationalities and races.
Why is it, that the most segregated place in the U.S. is every Sunday at your local church?
Why have Christians desegregated themselves in their communities, the work place and so on, but not at the church. Do we really think this is God's Will?
Unfortunately, I do not really know the answer to this question. I guess most Christians feel like they just want to feel comfortable and not get out of their comfort zone. As Christians we must be willing to be open to all of society no matter what our race or ethnicity is. How much easier is it then to evangelize to the lost when we can identify with someone's background and what their traditions are.
Derwin Gray's desire for the Church is to be biblically based and to fulfill Gods dream of unity amongst believers from all of society.
Psalm 133:1
A song of ascents. Of David. How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in
unity
!
John 17:23
I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
